2.Does the ID-1201 need to be hooked up to a receiver to operate?
Yes, it needs to be hooked up to the audio from a receiver that is receiving the MDC-1200 signal.

3.Does the ID-1201 need to be programmed?
No. The unit will decode any MDC-1200 ID that is received. With its 4-digit capability, it will decode any number between 1 and 9999.

4. Where is the best place to hook up the ID-1201 to a receiver?
Usually the discriminator output is best, but anywhere in the audio chain will work with the proper level.

5. Can the ID-1201 be hooked up to the receiver’s speaker output?
Most of the time the speaker output will work. However, because the speaker is controlled by a volume control, when the level is very low or very high or distorted, it will adversely affect the decoding.

6. Does the ID-1201 decode IDs from any radio?

10. Are the IDs tagged with the date and time
Yes, the ID-1201 tags the ID when it is decoded. The time and date are not displayed, but are sent to the printer port and serial (RS232) port along with the ID.

11. Can the ID-1201 scroll backwards or display more than one ID?
No, the unit can display only one ID at a time. When a new ID is decoded, the previous ID is replaced on the display by the new ID. But all IDs--with date and time--are sent to the printer and serial ports.

12. Will the ID-1201 decode an Emergency ID
Yes. Any MDC-1200 Emergency ID will be decoded. The display will flash and an audible alarm will alert the dispatcher. The Emergency ID will remain on the display until the dispatcher clears the screen.

13. What are the three push buttons on the top of the unit for?
When the ID-1201 is first installed, the buttons are used to set the date and time. When an Emergency ID is received, the buttons are used to silence the audible alarm and then clear the screen.

14. Will the ID-1201 decode alpha or hexadecimal IDs?
No, the unit will decode only numerical IDs up to four digits

16. Can the ID-1201 be mounted in a motor vehicle
Yes. The base of the ID-1201 can be removed, exposing two 6-32 threaded holes which can be used to mount the unit on a flat surface. The ID-1201 can operate from 11 to 15VDC.
